In the Growth · Cumulus series, Old Mountain Sandalwood carries the Wood Element at its most ancient — a botanical wood whose organic cellulose structure has been forming over centuries, and whose aromatic sesquiterpenes (α-santalol) have been associated in traditional practice with meditative openness and the clearing of mental space. Where most jewellery works with mineral energy, this bracelet brings the living Wood Element in its most literal form: the tree itself, shaped into beads.

At the crown, a single 12mm Small-leaf Rosewood focal bead — one of China's most revered hardwoods — carries a hand-engraved sterling silver inlay, its quiet metallic detail adding a refined Metal Element accent to the otherwise unified Wood palette. Three Heritage Lacquer beads, their resin drawn from the lacquer tree and their patterns built through layered hand-firing, complete the arc — plant-origin material transformed by craft into vivid colour: orange-red banding, blue swirl, violet and gold.

Historically linked to the Heart Chakra — the centre where Wood energy gathers, associated with openness, connection, and the willingness to grow. A bracelet for those moving through a season that asks for both rootedness and expansion.

The making. Hand-strung from alternating 10mm and 4mm Old Mountain Sandalwood rounds — the graduated sizing creating a gentle visual rhythm along the strand. The Small-leaf Rosewood focal is set at the crown, its silver inlay engraved by hand; each engraving is slightly distinct. Three Heritage Lacquer beads follow in sequence — each one fired, layered, and polished individually in a technique recognised as Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage. No two bracelets are identical.

A note on the lacquer beads. The three Heritage Lacquer beads are assigned at random from our current palette — each bracelet arrives with its own unique combination of pattern and colour. The bead shown in the photograph is one example; yours may differ in its arrangement of orange-red, blue, or violet tones. No two bracelets are ever identical, and no combination is less considered than another.

As natural wood, the grain, tone, and aromatic intensity of each sandalwood bead vary slightly — this is the character of the material, not a defect.
